SKIING IN FLORIDA?

We are going to have the first U.S.-based indoor ski resort! Not only the first in USA, but the worlds’ largest!
So, if you ever wanted to hit both the beach and the ski slopes in the same day, a solution for you may be coming to Hollywood, Florida.

Pelion Sunrise would be located near the Sawgrass Mills Mall. The developer, Norman Cantor, has plans to make Pelion Sunrise into more than just indoor ski slopes, as if that weren’t an ambitious enough project. The winter sports complex would contain ice skating, snowmobiling, sledding, and tubing facilities, in addition to the 2,700 foot ski slopes that have been proposed. The facility will be kept at 31 degrees Fahrenheit. In addition, there will be a separate facility with non-snow-related activities like go-carts, laser tag, and paintball.
The building itself is supposed to resemble an iceberg, perfect sight after spending a day on the hot Hollywood beach.

O’Malley’s celebrates one year in its new space at 7 p.m. Saturday with a benefit for Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.

True story: I stayed in Hollywood Beach Resort last year and witnessed dozens of people coming from all over to spend some time in their favorite restaurant – O’Malley’s……just not to find it! The disappointment on their faces was difficult to describe…Little did they know that O”Malley’s is still “alive and kicking”, just on the second floor of the Resort. The restaurant, which is a landmark of Hollywood Beach has reinvented itself a few times, but the family bond with “regular and irregular” remains strong.
Please come to celebrate a special milestone in O’Malley’s history - anniversary at the new location:
O’Malley’s Upper Deck/Club Atlantic Restaurant

Location: Hollywood Beach Resort Oceanwalk Mall, 101 S. Ocean Dr., second floor

O’Malley’s celebrates one year in its new space at 7 p.m. Saturday with a benefit for Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. A $5 donation gets you a domestic beer, house cocktail or glass of wine, with free bar bites available till 9 pm.

See you there!

NEW $35 MILLION SHOPPING CENTER IS COMING TO HOLLYWOOD

On the corner of Sheridan Street and S. Federal Highway at 1700 Sheridan Street,  West Lake Commons is planned to start the renewal one of Hollywood’s most visible commercial and residential areas, trafficked by more than 50,000 cars per day. The project will bring an approximate $35 million Publix grocery store-anchored retail shopping centre,  including Pollo Tropical and Starbucks.

This ground-breaking represents the redevelopment of a highly visible area in Hollywood, which will create value for the city and provide an urban pedestrian experience for the local community.

West Lake Commons will be a transformation of the former Hollywood Lincoln Mercury Dealership, which is situated on a 14-acre site that serves as a gateway into the city. The project will be anchored by a 54,000-square-foot Publix, which will feature an expanded gourmet selection and liquor store. Overall, the project will encompass 26,000 square feet of inline retail space and up to 20,000 square feet of out parcels. Completion is expected second quarter 2014.

CAN IT BE THE SECRET OF HOLLYWOOD BEACH MAGIC???

During ground preparation for Margaritaville, the workers discovered relicts of ancient Native Americans burial grounds: small pieces of smoking pipes, string of beads and flip-flops made of hemp. A lamp powered by liquid lava was also discovered.

Initial investigations by anthropologists from Florida International University believe they originate from the Tequesta tribe that first settled on Hollywood Beach some 400 years ago. Further investigations of underground dwelling have uncovered drawings that seem to indicate the placing of a curse on any attempt to develop this property outside the spirit of the Tequesta Native Tribe.

The Tribe were peaceful and fun-loving people who smoked a lot of natural weeds, drank a sugar cane concoction with sea salt and lime juice and spent a lot of time playing and dancing on beautiful Hollywood Beach…and there is a legend, that this sacred site must remain the same spirit. And it does!
